for the second day of the Blue Grass Fair was near-
ly <H]ual to that of yesterday, and the racinj: on the
whole was Ixdter. The contests were keener and
finishes <-h»ser. The weather was hrinlit and de-
liKhtfnlly «ool. The o]»enint; race was the hlle
Hour Purse, named in recognition of E. R. Brad-
ley’s naturally beautiful luirsery for thoroughbred
horses. The public selected as their choice the
bla<k mare Busy .Toe, bre«l and foaled at Idle
Hour Farm and owned by Mr. Bradley, and they
had the pleasure of seeing her win easily, though
by ;i margin of only a length, the second place
iHung filled by Miss Manage, a head in front <»f
Woodpile, which led for the first half mile. Mani-
curist was not eligible for this race and was with-
drawn. The backers of favorites were in line again
when Mayrese won the second race in a drive
with (Mcely Kay, these two making the running all
the wa 3 ’. The start of this race was jaior. Dandy
Van and Herself being virtually left at the i»ost.
Jo<*kej’ Warrington was engaged to ride Cicely
Ka.v, but failed to put iu an api>earance, Wolsten-
holm taking the mount.
.lolm T. Ireliind’s three-year-old brown gelding
Dark Hill, makii^ his first start in the third race,
scored an impnfssive victory at long odds. He
was off forwanib' ami Avent to the front around
the first turn. Along the backstret<-h the favorite,
Stevenson, challenged and passed him, but only
for a short way. Dark Hill again took command
and held it gamely to the end, winning by a nose
in 1:39%. He is a stout-hearted horse. G, Stone.

Bm k Nail was the choice for the fourth race, but
he was never close to the money. View led the
first three-quarters, but Willigan passed him in the
stretch and Dahnbiah II. got up in time to get sec-
ond place by a neck. Starter Morrissey made this
start without a barrier and it was one of his
la*st.
Morrissey made another gtsul. quick start without
a barrier in th^ fifth race. The (’.‘inadian bush
queen, Statim. went to the front and 1 <m 1 for five-
eighths. but died off in the stretch, (’anfield. com-
ing fast on the outside with Miss Wells, the favor-
ite, got to the front in the last scA'ent.v yards and
won by a half length, heads separating Benefactor.

him. “This is a fast and good horse,” said Young,
as he flopped tlie colt’s mane over to the proper
side of his neck. “With a decent break at the

Jockey Tommy Murctiy, Kay Spence’s high-class
lightAAcight rider, underwent- a minor surgical opera-
tion here since his return from Saratoga, and it is
doubtful if he Avill l3e able to ride before Ijatoiiia
opens. He is able to be up and about, but the iii-
eisioii made in the operation has not resiwiided to
treatment as rapidly as Avas expected.
Frank Rector. Avho raced the erratic horse Sam
McMeekin Avith much success in Kentucky last
spring, is among the recent arrix'als from Sara-
toga. He was among the Kentuckians Avho “drew
a blank” at the Spa meeting.
Ev«*ry stall at Churcliill Downs has been wliite-
AA'ashed and disinfected, and the same treatment
will lie giA-en the stalls at Douglas Park. General
manager Matt J. Winn of the Kentucky Jockey
Club has appointed a sanitarj' inspector for both
tracks, and his duties Avill be to look, after the
cleanliness of tlie stabling facilities at both plants.
Captain James Kinnuriicy, Avho had charge of
the policing arrangements at Churchill Downs and
Litonia lust spring, Avill be employed iu a similar
capacity at the I>*xington track al the coming fall

Former jockey Bryant Ott, Avho recently returned

men have confidence in the resumption of racing in
Canada is evidenced by the preparations being made
for next year. George W. Beardmore who last

chased from Mrs. L, A. Livingston. They arriA'ed
at Womihine I’ark last Friday from Pontiac Farm,

be pointed for the Plate and other events for
Canadian-bred liorses next season.

Mrs. Livingston, to lie broken at Womlbine. It is
possible that Mr. Beardmore may also purchase this
haml of juveniles, many of Avhich are fashionably

ONE OF CANADA’S MOST SUCCESSFUL SIRES,

Trainer John Walker has purchased from the

Jr., of Versailles. secrt*tary of the Kentucky State
Racing Commission, and one of the stewards at the
Kentucky Jockey rinb’s rac*e meetings, has b<*en
named as one of the tliree stewards for the winter
meeting of the Business Men’s Racing Association
at the NeAv Orleans Fair Groniids. A report from
Ncav Orleans is to the effect that the other two

a scant margin.

ETHEL GRAY BADLY INJURED.
Mr. Montford Jones’ filly Etiiel Gray was so
badly kicked on the inside of her left leg that it
Avill probably lie tliree or four AA'eeks before she can
be raced again. It was this injury that was re-
sponsible for the bad shoAviiig she made in the Hope-
ful Stakes at Saratoga last Saturday,

THE JOCKEY CLUB.
In races of intermediate lengths the weights for
the shorter distance shall be carried.
In races exclusively for three-year-olds or four-
year-olds the weight shall be 120 pounds, and for
two-year-olds 122 pounds.
Except in handicaps and in races -where tiie con-
ditions expressly state to the contrary, fillies two
years old shall be allowed three pounds and mares
throe years old and upward shall be allowed five
pounds before September 1 and three pounds there-
after.
Welter weights shall be 28 pounds added to the
weight-for-age. In heavy handicaps the top weight
shall not be less tlian 140 pounds. In all liandicaps,
wlien the added money exceeds $G0O, the top weight
shall not be less than 12C pounds.
KENTUCKY STATE RACING COMMISSION.
In races of intermediate lengtlis the weights for
the sliurter distance shall be carried.
In races exclusively for two-year-olds, 118 pounds
sh.tll be carried.
In races exclusively for three-year-olds, 122
pounds shall be carried.
In heat races there sliall be an allowance of five
pounds from the scale of weights.
Except in handicaps, fillies two years old and
geldings of all ages shall be allowed three pounds.
Fillies and mares three years old and upward
shall lie allowed five pounds before September 1 and
three pounds thereafter.
CANADIAN RACING ASSOCIATIONS.
In races of intermediate lengths, the weights for
the shorter distance shall be carried.
In races exclusively for three-year-olds or four-
year-olds the weights shall be 122 pounds, and for
two-year-olds 118 pounds.
Except in handicaps and in all races where the
conditions expressly state to the contrary, fillies
two years old shall be allowed three pounds, itnd
fillies and mares three-years old and upward shall
be allowed five pounds before the first of September
and three pounds thereafter. (leldings allowed three
pounds.
In all races (except in handicaps) wliere foreign-
breds are not penalized os such horses foaled in
Canada shall be allowed up to and including three
years 7 pounds; four years and upward, 5 pounds.
Welter weights shall be 28 pounds added to the
weight-for-age.
In heavyweight handicaps the top weight shall
not be less than 140 i>ounds.
No two-year-olds shall compete in an all-aged
race prior to August 1.
In all handicaps, when the added money exceeds
$G00, top weight shall not be less than 12G pounds.
CUBA AMERICAN JOCKEY CLUB.
In races of intermediate lengths the weights for
slmrter distances sliall be carried.
In races exclusively for two-year-olds# 118 pounds.
In races exclusively for three -year-olds, 122
pounds.

Fillies and mares, Ihree yem -olds and upward,

No gelding three years old and over shall be
qualified to start in any race closing seventy -two
hours or more before the date of running, except
handicaps and selling races. This rule shall not
apply to horses gelded prior to February 13, 1919.
LOWER CALIFORNIA JOCKEY CLUB.
In races of intermediate lengths the weights for
the shorter distance shall be carried.
In a race exclusively for two year-olds the
weights shall be 118 pounds.
In a race exclusively for three-year-olds or four-
year-olds the weights shall be 122 pounds.

weights are fixed absolutely in the conditions, fillies
two years old and geldings of all ages shall be
allowed three pounds, and fillies and mares three
years old and upward shall be allowed five pounds
before September 1 and three pounds thereafter.

NEW ORLEANS BUSINESS MEN’S RACING
ASSOCIATION.
In races of intermediate lengths the weights for
the shorter distance shall be carried.
In races exclusively for two-year-olds the weights
shall be 122 pounds.
In races exclusively for three -year -olds or four-
year-olds the weights shall be 12G pounds.
In handicaps, when the added money exceeds $C00,
the top weight shall not be less than IIG pounds.
Except in handicaps and in races where the con*
ditions state to the contrary, fillies two years old,
and mares three years old and upward, shall be
allowed five pounds before September 1 and three
pounds afterward.
STEEPLECHASE WEIGHTS.
At the eastern tracks all steeplechase races are
run under the rules of the National Steeplechase
and Hunt Association, which provides these weights:
For steeplechases less than three miles — From
January 1 to August 31. inclusive, three years, 133
pounds; four years, 149 pounds; five years, 157
pounds; six years and over. 1G2 pounds. From Sep-
tember 1 to December 31, inclusive, for three years,
137 pounds; four years, 154 pounds; five years, IGO
pounds; six years and over. 1G2 i>ounds.
For steeplechases of three miles and over — From
January 1 to August .31, Inclusive, four years, 143
pounds; five years, 1.55 pounds; six years and over
IGO pounds. From September 1 to December 31, in-
clusive, for four years, 149 pounds; five years, 158
pounds; six years and over, IGO pounds.
For hurdle races — From January 1 to August 31,
Inclusive, three years, 135 pounds; four years, 142
pounds; five years, 152 pounds; six years and over,
15G iK)unds. From September 1 to December 31, in-
clusive, three years, 142 pounds; four years, 1.5,5
IK)uiids; five years and ovqr, IGl pounds. In races
e.\clusively for three-year-olds the weights shall be
145 pounds.
Except in handicaps and In races where the
weights are fixed absolutely in the conditions,
mares shall be allowed five pounds before Septem-
ber 1 and three pounds afterward.
For races on the flat under Hunt Club auspices,
the scale of weights adopted by the Jockey Club
shall govern and in respect of such races welter
weights Shull be 28 pounds above the weight for
age.
In the west the weights specified by the Western
.lockey Club and the American Turf Association are
identical and are as follows:

The rules of the Canadian Racing Associations
governing steeplechases and hurdle races provide
that no horse shall be permitted to start in any
steeplechase or hurdle race carrying less than 130
pounds. When a scale of weights for age is not
fixed by the regulations of any course or by the
conditions of a meeting or race the following scale
shall govern:
For steeplechases and hurdle races less than three
miles, from January 1 to July 31, inclusive, four
years, 145 pounds; five years. 150 pounds; six years
and over. IGG iKuinds. From August 1 to December
31. inclusive, three years. 138 i>ounds; four years,
1.55 pounds; five years, 1G3 pounds; six years and
over, IGG i»ounds.
For steeplechases of three miles and over, Janu-
ary 1 to August 31, inclusive, four years, 138
pounds: five years, 157 pounds; six years and over,
IGO pounds. From September 1 to December 31,
inclusive, four years, 149 pounds; five years, IGl
pounds; six years and over, IGG pounds.
Except iu handicaps and in all races where the
conditions expressly state to the contrary, mares
shall be allowed five pounds before the first of
September and three pounds thereafter. Gildings
allowed three pounds.
